I don't think trying to create a disc image from a non RISC OS computer will help in any way. We can easily check to see what's happening.
Firstly try opening the original ZIP disc from Mac OS X. Do you see the original contents? Or is the disc blank.
What happens when you mount & then open the .dmg file from Mac OS X Do you see the original files? Or is the image blank/unreadable.
If the files are present then it might be possible to copy them from the disc/image into a folder inside the VirtualRPC Harddisc4. I suggest copying from Mac OS X. The VirtualRPC harddisc4 is located in
Applications/VirtualAcorn/VirtualRPC-AdjustSA
If the files are readable and if they copy you will find that all the filetypes are missing. Run VirtualRPC, then use the !TypeFind application located in the fharddisc4.$.filing directory to try and restore the filetypes. I suspect some files might have to be file typed by hand but in my experience TypeFind will get 80%+ correct.
If the files are not present or the disc is unreasable then...
The best approach would be to get hold of a real RiscPC that's fitted with a CD writer. Then connect the Zip drive to the Risc PC, read each of the discs in turn and copy the content into a new directory. Once you have all the files copied burn a RISC OS format CD with the data. This means you have a backup of the Zip discs and the files can now be read on the VirtualRPC.
I can't see any other approach that will work.
