Hi.
I've got this problem with ShareFS not working i.e it does not see other Risc OS machines on my local network. If I go to Configuration - Network and click on the MimeMap icon I get an error box which says: Syntax: *Filer_Run [-noshift] [-type <filetype>] <file> | <application>. I've done a clean re-install of VA but still have the same problem. Can anyone help.

I can still 'ping' other machines.
NetSurf connects to the internet ok.

All VirtualRPCs come with the networking ready set up, so there shouldn't be any need to change anything. VirtualRPC acts as an app that can connect to the network, everything is done using the network settings of the host operating system.

So, firstly check to see if Windows can ping the other machines on your network.
Check that all machines are configured with the same subnet mask.
Temporarily disconnect the network from the internet and disable any firewalls.
Physically check cables etc

RISC OS can get its knickers in a twist when there are different RISC OS machines on the same network but with different speed network adapters.

Further investigation into the problem showed strange results.
Sometimes when I booted into VA, shareFS worked ok. on these occations the network/mime icon also worked ok. If shareFS was not working then network/mime icon gave the error message. At all times the windows networking side was working ok.

I then decided to re-install Windows Vista and then Virtual Acorn. As of now I've had no more problems with shareFS.

I'm glad that you've fixed it. It sounds as though a component somewhere wasn't behaving reliably.
