I can't start up VirtualAcorn! I get this error (above) when I go to run it.
NOTE: the error shows a different machine code yet my correct key.

I can't alter the machine code and re-entering my key doesn't fix it.

Maybe VRPC did not like being forcebly exited (when the battery level went down).
I have the power option on 'Batt' set to hibernate at 4% but unfort my machine will not hibernate at all nowadays (separate problem?).

I reinstalled cmos to no avail.
Now have re-installed VirtualAcorn.

However I still get the same error.
Could anyone advise?

This really is not the place to go if you have this sort of problem. Contact details, phone number and e-mail address are shown in the VirtualAcorn Product Registration Window on screen. No-one on here is going to be able to issue you with a new unlock code. I suggest either e-mailing the registration address and following the instructions in the replay. Or going to the support section of the VirtualAcorn website and running the VirtualAcorn Technical Support Assistant.

Could it be because I changed the name of the computer?
I reverted to the earlier name and VRPC worked.

I don't see how changing the name of the computer could make any difference. It's will be something else that you have done. There is an age old maxim, "if you don't know what you are doing then don't do it".

I had this type of error yesterday after months of stable use on the Mac.
VRPC put up a screen with my (correct) product code/key fields correctly filled in [Ok the letters used in the unlock key were in lower case whereas my paper records indicated upper, but the same a-z letters] but would not 'take' them {neither when I amended them to Upper case].

I suspect a rather vigorous Onyx session (version 2.2.9 of the utility), clearing our various caches etc. in an excess of garbage clearing zeal.

Anyhow I used my intuition inspired by many years of computer use.
A log out and re-start fixed it, no more request for a key.

[I also added the 10.6.8 incremental update from Apple just prior to the prob but I don't think that was the cause.]

VRPC 1.1.6.

all up and running now, thanks...
