I have noticed that when disconnecting the PC network adapter VRPC will ask for the Unlock Code.

Connecting the network adapter again, VRPC boots and does not ask for unlock code.

Why does it do that?

As a result of disconnecting and reconnecting the network adapter, RISC-OS 6 install no longer boots and gives the following error during the boot sequence:

net.inet.udp.checksum: Unimplemented SWI

the boot sequence hangs after the above line is displayed on the black boot screen.

I have tried many solutions:

1. Reinstalling VRPC gain.
2. Reinstalling RISC-OS 6 again.

No help. Still RISC-OS 6 does not boot.

Here is how the screen looks:

A knock-on effect of disconnecting the network adaptor is that the (PC) product ID number is changed.

Hence the existing VirtualRPC unlock code is no longer valid (note the window asking for the unlock code has a different product ID number).

Reconnecting the network adaptor 'corrects' the product ID and, therefore, the unlock code.

Sorry I can't comment on the other problem as we have no experience of RISC OS 6.

The problem with RISC OS 6 is probably an unplugged module.

Revert to the base (original) version of RISC OS (i.e. no softload).
Press F12 and type
*unplug
for each unplugged module type
*rmreinit (modulename)
Press return twice to go back to the desktop
Enable the softload
Quit VRPC and re-load

*unplug
Unplugged modules are:
BootNet
FreewayHosts
RSTools (Podule 3)

*Rmreinit Bootnet
*Rmreinit FreewayHosts
*Rmreinit RSTools

 :P :D

problem solved.

thanks Aaron.

Does this mean that replacing the network adapater with another requires a new unlock code?

I only "software" disabled networking by clicking "Disable" on my Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet device, as I was expriencing network connection problems, which was then solved by the Disable/Enable action. There was no hardware change !!!

If you find that disabling a device causes VRPC to whinge then you need to contact me. It's easy enough to set it up so that devices can be disabled/removed without any effect on VirtualRPC.

Thanks Aaron. Will do, if need be.
I hope the machine won't break (I have extended 5 years warranty on the workstation). Hope it lasts that long :!:

Again, thanks for all the help.
