Hi everybody,

Ik bought a version of VirtualRPC-AdjustSA but now i have some problems.
Ik have a original Acorn with Riscos 3.7 and extracted the rom from the machine

Now ik want to use this roms in VirtualRPC but i cant get it to work
When i download redsquirrel it works fine but i need the network support so that is the reason i bought VirtualAcorn

Have anybody some suggestions to get it work ??

Thanx

Greetings, Robbert

Each verison of VirtualAcorn is designed to run the copy of RISC OS that it's supplied with. In addition you can also softload a later OS.

However you can't go backwads and I'm a bit confused as why you would want to. What's the reason for needing to run RISC OS 3.7?

We are using a program in the company that runs on 3.7
Because i can't get it running on 4.39 i would try it on 3.7
I tried in in Redsquirrel but because it don't support networking it isn't working.

But i'm still trying to get it work. I dont give up :)

OK, have you tried using the Arm710 processor - it might be that the progam has some non SA compatible code. What language is the program written in?

c++ i guess
But it looks like the program have some problems with the scrapdir
On the originial Acorn it is writing temp data to the scrapdir in a id????? folder but in Virtual Acorn it is a folder without an id number.

The location of the scrap directory is set by the OS - and a pointer e.g. wimp$scrap set to point where the currently used Scrap folder is located (!Boot.Resources.!Scrap.ScrapDirs.IDxxxx). The IDxxxxx part of the folder name is machine specific (generally) and is calculated using the machines network settings. The actual folder in use shouldn't matter to an application - as it will (should) be using the pointers provided by RISC OS.

Sunday evening i will try another shot. I am not home at the moment.
Everything is working except 1 part of the program. A very important part of the program. It wil calculate fem (finite element method) for our constructions. The programm is called 2D-Frame and it looks like he will write to the scrapdir.

I have a original risc machine on my desk too. When i put everything on that machine it works perfectly. So what can be the difference between the Original machine and the Virtual machine ?

The only difference i saw whas the ID number in the scrap directory. But you say it doesn't make any difference. A scrapdir is a scrapdir. No matter where it is located.

I am convinced i can working it out. But RiscOS is relative new for me. It is a challenge to find out where i can find some things.

When everything is working fine we gonna buy 7 more versions of the software so the old hardware can be removed of the desks.

Shall i post some of the error messages Sunday or Monday ? I dont know or the are program specific or RiscOS specific but maybe you regocnize it and know what te problem can be.

Have a nice weekend,

Regards,

Robbert

You might as well post the error messages - they might provide a clue.
