Hi,
Sometimes I'm unable to use the internet from RISC OS. Here's the sequence of events which causes the problem:
1) Unplug network cable from laptop
2) Start up VRPC
3) Plug in network cable to laptop. Browse web etc on Windows
4) Fail competely to do anything remotely network related on RISC OS
5) Shutdown VRPC
6) Start up VRPC
7) Browse web, send emails etc from RISC OS
How can I solve the problem at item (4)?
Thanks a lot,
Adam

I am a bit confused about this. In step 4 you say you aren't doing anything remotely network related in RISC OS, so what's the problem?

I said I fail to do anything. E.g. I try, but it won't work :(
Thanks,
Adam

Right, sorry I didn't understand.
OK, so why do you take step 1? Or whay not swap round steps 2 and 3?
i.e. Why do you unplug the cable?

No problem - I guess I expressed it quite unclearly!

Unfortunately the "unplug/plug in the cable" steps are just to try and illustrate the problem in the clearest way. ;)
In practice, the changing availability of an internet connection on the host machine is down to various factors outside my control (for instance, when using the laptop while out and about).
Thanks,
Adam

OK, I think I am getting there.
I assume that what you are saying is that if the status of the PC's network connection changes after VRPC has been loaded, then this change is not reflected in RISC OS. This isn't really much of a surprise.
Anyway lets see if we can alter things (although quitting and re-loading VRPC is so quick).
What happens if you RMReInit the Internet module?

It didn't really surprise me either until I discovered that other people do not suffer the same problem!

After doing a "*RMReInit Internet" and quitting and reloading Netsurf, Netsurf will browse the web OK, so that's a step forward already :)
Unfortunately both POPStar and NewsHound still fail to connect (POPStar says "unable to find host" and NewsHound says "failed to resolve hostname").
Thanks,
Adam

Its the Resolver module which may need RMReinit'ing if you are getting resolver errors.
Also make sure that applications are not set to cache DNS queries and perform lookups each time. I recall thats an option in one of the fetchers.

Thanks, I just tried this, but it didn't make any difference.

I can't see any options like that in either app.
