Hi,
Does network printing work? I've got a printer, which I can print to from my laptop in Windows and I used to be able to print to from VRPC when it was physically attached to the same machine.
ShowPrinters gives me a name starting "//_hp_something..." but using "HostFS:://hp_..." just gives me the "disc not found" error.
Anyone else got this working? Am I doing something wrong? The manual says it should just work.
Cheers,
Adam

Adam,
Not entirely sure I know what is going on, but ....
My VRPC-SE is installed on Windows XP Pro.
The XP "Printers and Faxes" control panel lists all of the local and network printers which it knows about - with names such as
HP 1170c on Computer 1
Canon on Computer2
Computer 1 is also Win XP, but Computer 2 is Win 98
When I ran the ShowPrinters file, I got the two printers listed as:
HP1170c_on_Computer1
//Computer2/Canon
(confusing, at first - until I worked out the Win98 connection)
Setting up VRPC-SE to print to a Windows XP networked printer works, but trying to print to a Windows 98 networked printer does not - and produces the Disc Not Found error which you get.
i.e. Networked printers shown as //computer/printer do not appear to work.
-------------------------------------------------------
Does all of that help ?

I have been having another look at this and have become quite intrigued by the syntax of the "filename that will be used for printing" e.g. the one quoted in the VirtualRPC-SE Manual - which is HostFS::HP_Laserjet_4L
If you think about this you can see why you get an error message "Disc not found" when you give it an invalid name.
Also, I think the way that Microsoft and Acorn file systems interchange the use of the 'dot' and 'slash' characters may have something do with why we are not getting networked Windows printers to work when they have names like //computer/printer
Having said all that, I think that the way it seems to interface to the Windows printing system is quite clever and I now have it working to networked printers on a number of other computers. :)

Cheers,
Adam
